Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive at the time of booking confirmation or upon collecting your vehicle. This document outlines key terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your obligations associated with the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To rent a vehicle from Burton, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, and additional fees may apply for those under 25. A valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, held for the minimum duration stated in the Rental Agreement. You will also need to present valid identification and proof of your current address. Payment information along with a security deposit is necessary, along with any other conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Dartford office. A deposit may be needed to confirm your booking. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is usually required at the time of vehicle pickup. All charges are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure transactions through trusted payment processors.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, please conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and promptly report any existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by you. It is your responsibility to return the vehicle in the same condition as received, accounting only for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as when you picked it up; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur extra charges, so please notify us in advance if you expect to return the vehicle late. You are liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during your rental period, along with an applicable administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. You can find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to help minimize your financial liability. It is important to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless covered by extra insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms is your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the notice given. Please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement for precise information. Late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for illegal activities or purposes. Activities such as racing, rallying, or off-roading are prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose, adhering to passenger and weight limits. Operating outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior authorization is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Burton Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the amount you paid for your rental in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence, or for fraudulent activity.
Governing Law Overview
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
Terms Update Notification
Burton reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
